About This Course

Description:
This 6 CEU-hour course is designed to teach clinicians how to recognize, diagnose and treat contamination OCD, a common but challenging-to-treat form of obsessive compulsive disorder that represents nearly half of its cases. This will be one of the first courses focusing specifically on the unique treatment implications of the contamination OCD subtype.

In addition to discussing how to effectively use exposure and response prevention (ERP), the oldest and most-researched approach for OCD, it also covers newer evidence-based treatment models such as inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy (I-CBT) as well as an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) based “Mastery” approach designed explicitly for the difficult-to-treat case of disgust-based contamination OCD.

Objectives

  • Self-report knowledge increase in defining and differential diagnosis of Contamination OCD

  • Identify how and when to apply Exposure and Response Prevention

  • Identify how and when to apply Inference-based CBT

  • Identify how and when to apply the Mastery approach

  • Identify the direction for future research and practice trends for treating Contamination OCD

Target Audience: Introductory. For clinicians with little to no experience in the subject matter.
