"Distilled to key take-home points that I could start using right away in work with clients"
Contamination OCD can be all-consuming for many sufferers. This course takes a closer look at ERP treatment as well as a new ACT-inspired Mastery approach for disgust-based contamination fears.
Description:
This 1.0 CEU-hour course is designed to teach clinicians how to recognize and treat contamination OCD, a common but challenging-to-treat form of obsessive compulsive disorder that represents nearly half of its cases. This course focuses specifically on the unique treatment implications of the contamination OCD subtype.
In addition to discussing how to effectively use exposure and response prevention (ERP), the oldest and most-researched approach for OCD, it also covers a recently-published acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) based “Mastery” approach designed explicitly for the difficult-to-treat case of disgust-based contamination OCD, together with a brief overview of other emerging treatment approaches.
The instructor is an experienced clinician who published the first recognized treatment protocol for disgust-based OCD with the IOCDF in 2023, and has authored numerous successful books on anxiety treatment and communications skills with major publishers.
Objectives
Apply Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) as a treatment strategy for contamination OCD – the most common and well-researched strategy for OCD treatment.
Apply the Mastery approach, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), for treating contamination OCD – particularly for cases involving disgust and/or other non-habituating triggers.Identify the direction for future research and practice trends for treating Contamination OCD.
Target Audience: Introductory. For clinicians with little to no experience in the subject matter.
Intermediate/Advanced. For clinicians wanting to add an additional approach to disgust-based Contamination OCD.
