About This Course

Description:
This course is a slower paced version of our live, large group I-CBT trainings. You get the full I-CBT Basic Training, but also case consultation as you go.

Inference-based CBT is an evidence-based treatment of choice for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I-CBT is an upstream modality that targets the obsessional doubt of the OCD cycle. When the obsessional doubt is resolved, then the anxiety and compulsive aspects of OCD do not take place. I-CBT is completed through 12 modules. This training will give clinicians an introductory knowledge of I-CBT, and they will then be able to provide I-CBT treatment for clients with OCD.

This course is complete over a 12 week time period in 90 minute sessions giving you time to watch role plays of skills, practice skills yourself, and ask detailed questions related to your specific cases.

Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish at least two ways Inference-based CBT differs from Exposure and Response Prevention

  • Apply knowledge of Inference-based CBT to case conceptualization.

  • Apply knowledge of the inferential confusion process to case conceptualization.

  • Apply knowledge of the normal reasoning process to case conceptualization.

  • Describe at least one key learning point in each of the twelve modules of Inference-based CBT.

  • Identify three tricks of OCD according to Inference-based CBT

  • Identify the treatment target of Inference-based CBT

  • Assess where Inferential Confusion happens in the Obsessional Sequence.

  • Identify the role of imaginal absorption in OCD.

  • Distinguish between the role of the senses and the imagination in reasoning.

  • Demonstrate how to identify the Feared Possible Self in a client.

  • Explain how personal experiences are used in the inferential confusion process.

  • Create metaphors to help clients learn about the selectivity of doubt.

  • Identify at least 2 ways that OCD can masquerade as something a client trusts.

  • Plan appropriate off-theme examples for use with clients in session.

  • Explain to clients why the "stakes" don't matter when they come from inferential confusion.

  • Discuss why process matters more than content in OCD.

  • Identify client stuck points.

Target Audience: Introductory. For clinicians with little to no experience in the subject matter. For clinicians with experience who want to strengthen their skillset.
